Chilipiquin

Capsicum annum var. glabriusculum

TL;DR: Wild Spicy Boi

On the other side of this deck was an entire hedge full of bright red fruit. I wish I had harvested a few handfuls to make a small bottle of hot sauce.

This variety is truly the OG pepper as it is the common ancestor of all common pepper varieties. They are most commonly found amongst other underbrush. Perennial, this plant comes back each year.

They’re also known as chilepepin, wild chile, bird’s eye pepper, and chile del monte. You’ll have a hard time finding them north of the Edwards Plateau here in Texas.
